N₂O Emissions
Nitrous oxide emissions from marine engines. Minor by mass but consequential - N₂O has GWP100 of 273, so tiny amounts translate to meaningful CO₂e.
Annual N₂O
1.440t
CO₂-equivalent (GWP100=273)
393.1t CO₂e
Formula, assumptions, and limits
N₂O (t) = Power × Hours × N₂O factor (g/kWh) / 1e6 CO₂e = N₂O × 273
Ammonia-fuelled engines have elevated N₂O because of SCR interactions with unburned ammonia. Future dual-fuel ammonia tech aims to push N₂O back below conventional diesel levels through better combustion and SCR tuning.
