Formula, assumptions, and limits
STAWAVE-2 closed-form for the mean added resistance in irregular head waves at design speed. Assumes head seas and displacement-type hull; under-reads by 20–40 % at oblique angles vs strip theory. Used in IMO MEPC.212(63) for the fw factor on EEDI.
