Cofferdam Heating - Duty & Surface Temperature
Cofferdam glycol-heater duty required to keep inner-hull steel above the brittle-fracture limit (+5 °C) given cargo-tank temperature and ambient seawater.
Temperature difference
168.0K
Heat loss to tank
33.6kW
Heater duty (25 % margin)
42.0kW
Formula, assumptions, and limits
$$\dot Q = U \cdot A \cdot (T_{cofferdam} - T_{tank})$$
Inner-hull steel must stay ≥ +5 °C for Grade A/B. Membrane LNGC cofferdams use glycol-water coils at 40–60 °C. Check NO ice build-up under sea chests.
