Aggregate compliance balances across multiple ships. A high-performing methanol newbuild can offset an older HFO ship in the same pool. Pooling agreements must be registered with the EU Commission.

Formula and assumptions
Pool balance = Σ individual balances
Once pooled, all ships are treated as having a single combined balance for compliance purposes. Pool operators handle internal accounting between pool members. The Commission maintains a pool register updated annually.
