Usage
Required EEDI (ice-class) = fⱼ × Reference × (1 − Z)
fⱼ > 1 makes the Required EEDI more permissive - ice-class hulls are heavier and have higher resistance, so IMO allows a proportional allowance. Tanker and bulk-carrier values are the most commonly tabulated; other types default to 1 unless explicit factors apply.
